Swim Practice

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday

The 6 a.m. group comprises swimmers who compete on a regular basis, although any team masters swimmer is welcome. Workouts are typically 2500 or more yards and are swum at fairly challenging intervals. Coach Ed swims with this group and directs the workout from the water.

Contact Coach Ed or Doctor Magoo if you would like to swim with this group.

Sunday Morning Open Water Swims

We hold an open water swim on Sunday mornings. The group meets at the flag pole at St.Pete  Beach at 8:15 for a little OW instruction and a group swim starting at 8:30. All levels arewelcome, HOWEVER, for safety reasons:
  • Check in with Magoo if you are joining the group for the first time.
  • Like all Windfall workouts, USMS membership is required.
  • This is a group swim–please bring a team player attitude.
  • Fins are REQUIRED for those swimmers who cannot keep up with one of the packs.
  • A brightly colored swim cap is REQUIRED–not optional.
  • When the water dips below 70 F, wetsuits will be REQUIRED, unless you have proven cold-water swimming experience.

This is a great way to get some open water experience while having fun with the group. If you are focused solely your individual performance, this practice may not be for you. We expect swimmers to buddy up and watch out for each other. There are almost always two or three different packs for a variety of swimming speeds. Breakfast afterward!

Magoo confirms this practice with an email on Saturday night after he has had a few to many Rye's as due to shifting weather conditions, the practice may be canceled. Email him if you want your mobile phone to be added to the text list for day-of weather updates, including cancellations.
